In the Netherlands, potatoes are often eaten as a source of carbohydrates as part of a meal which also includes vegetables and meat. Yet, in terms of both nutritional value and use, you could consider the potato to be a vegetable. In many international dishes, the potato is used as a vegetable. Potatoes are a good source of vitamin B1 and B6, and newly harvested potatoes, especially, as a good source of vitamin C and potassium.
Varieties & Types
In order to meet the diverse needs of growers, processing companies and consumers, over time many different potato varieties have been developed. Worldwide there are 500 varieties, of which a few hundred are actually cultivated. There are white, yellow and red-skinned potatoes, firm, crumbly and those suitable for chips, from small baby potatoes to large solid ones.
Export
Traditionally, Mulder Onions exports potatoes to many customers all over the world. Potatoes can be supplied as part of a delivery, including onions and/or garlic. The potatoes are packaged by highly qualified, experienced packing stations. They are packed in poly mesh bags or jute bags, according to the customer’s wishes. When selecting a variety, a strict selection process is followed, taking transit times and local weather conditions into consideration. This ensures that potatoes arrive at their destination in satisfactory condition. The well-known export varieties are shipped year-round.
